Port Isabel

As the oldest city in south Texas, Port Isabel has a long and interesting history dating back to 1519 when it was charted by Spanish explorer Alonzo de Pineda and inhabited by pirates and Indians.Port Isabel is one of the oldest continually inhabited areas founded by Europeans in North America as it was settled in 1554.

In September 1967, Hurricane Beulah caused extensive damage to much of the city of Port Isabel. On July 23, 2008, Hurricane Dolly, a category 2 storm, also caused extensive damage to the city.
