Originally built for horse drawn carriages, these paths have gentle grades with wide, crushed stone lanes, and are the ideal way to view the park.
The ambitious cyclist will find challenge and reward by taking an early morning ride ont he 20 mile Park Loop road. The spectacular scenery is not to be missed.
For a change of pace, ride right out of Southwest Cycle to the town dock and take your bike on the ferry to Cranberry Island. Flat roads with little traffic make this ideal for families. Take a picnic, visit the beach and make a day of it. Or cycle to Bass Harbor, catch the ferry to Swans Island and visit the fine sand beach, the light house, and take a swim in the quarry.
Explore the west side of the island by taking the fire roads that are just a short distance from Southwest Cycle, Southwest Harbor, Maine. Park your bike and swim in the lake or take a short hike up the hill for a beautiful view.
