Seychelles Fishng Tournament and first Billfish release

Seychelles Fishing Competition The Seychelles Sports Fishing Club (SSFC) recently hosted the fourth Heineken Slam and the first Billfish Release challenge. The first Billfish Release challenge backed by World Wide Fund for Nature was a milestone for SSFC

The Billfish release tournament required the teams to "tag and release" all billfish (such as blue marlins, sailfish and swordfish) caught in the contest and present a video of the tag and release for verification to capture their points. To win the the 2014 Heineken Slam the teams had 17 hours to catch a 3 fish species namely that of the wahoo, yellowfin tuna and dorado.

The anglers and their boats set out at midnight on the 28th June 2014 with a mix of both Seychellois and foreigners who had come to the Indian Ocean island especially for the event. Nine teams met the deadline and returned back to the Seychelles Marine Charter on time.

The winner of the heaviest Dorado was the team of Blue Lady with a weight of 5.52kg while team Kuki came in with the heaviest Wahoo weighing 14.52kg and then Blue Lady again with the heaviest yellowfin tuna weighing 39.18kg. Overall winner was team of Blue Lady. They walked away with a White gold - fish pendant sponsored by ‘Jouel’ Seychelles as well as a Heineken sports pack and a the famous Seychelles coco de mer. The runner up was team Kuki and team Island star came in third place. Well done to all we know the conditions where not the most calm.

All the anglers will be back again for the Southeast Monsoon Sailfish Tournament to be held on the 9th August 2014.
