Waipu

The Scottish heritage of Waipu began when 800 settlers arrived at Waipu fleeing persecution from the Highlands in Scotland in the 1850s. There is still a strong Scottish flavour to Waipu today.

The Waipu Caves are known for their significant population of glowworms. Modern visitors can enjoy the restaurants of the area as well as the art produced by the thriving artist community.
