Tofino has a population of just over 1600 people year round. In the summer our population increases anywhere from 8,000 to 10,000 people. Here in Tofino we get an average of 10,000 tourists per day in the peak season, and will host over 1,000,000 tourists in a year.
Why is Tofino so popular?
Tofino is in the middle of the rainforest on the open ocean surrounded by all kinds of wild life, its paradise. If that's not enough Tofino has beautiful beaches, to walk or surf, there are all sorts of tours to go bear or whale watching or spend the day at hot springs cove. Or go kayaking around Clayoquot sound.
There is some amazing hiking to do in and around Tofino weather you are looking for a easy boardwalk trail leading to long beach or a rough and muddy trek through the rainforest, ask your host for some tips on what to check out!
Surfing in Tofino is something you can't miss and the best part is you can do it YEAR ROUND here! You can catch some good waves in the summer and work on your tan in-between sets OR go big wave riding in the winter And after that Jacuzzi bath at the Tofino Trek Inn is sooo good!
Nature! As close up as you can get. Paddle over tidal pools teeming with mussels, anemones, starfish, crab, and more... Lift your head to discover you're being watched by the bold cold staring eyes of a bald eagle! Blue herons may be observed in their frozen stance. Or perhaps an otter or seal will become curious about you passing by. Martins and mink compete with raccoons for local seafood along the shoreline. Keep an eye out for the cormorants, loons, ducks, Murrelets and grebes that spend their days fishing these Clayoquot Sound waters. If you choose our Meares Island tour, you will also explore the ancient rainforest, where you can find some of the largest Cedar and Spruce trees in Canada, with unique observations provided by your guide.
TOFINO HOT SPRINGS
Hot Springs Cove lies 26 nautical miles up the coast from Tofino at Maquinna Provincial Park. For thousands of years, natural thermal hot springs have poured out of the rocks and spilled out on the edge of the Pacific Ocean in Northern Clayoquot Sound. Located at the mouth of a narrow peninsula, the springs are perched right at the water's edge overlooking the open ocean, and are accessible only by boat or plane. Long a favorite stopover of locals and passing fishing vessels, this magical place is now accessible to all. Jamie's Daily tours transport thousands of happy travelers to these Hot Springs each year. Join us for a magical trip through the heart of Clayoquot Sound to Hot Springs Cove.
