Mozambique info

Mozambique is a tropical destination on the southeast coast of Africa. Mozambique is becoming increasingly popular with South African holidaymakers who flock to the coast to enjoy the palm fringed beaches, friendly people and spectacular diving. Mozambique has a total of 9 National Parks which offer good game viewing opportunities and the coastline boasts over 1000 species of marine life. The Bazaruto Archipelago National Park consists of five main islands: Bazaruto, Benguera, Magaruque, Santa Carolina and tiny Bangué offering turquoise waters, tranquil beaches and excellently preserved coral formations for world class diving and snorkelling. Living amidst all the natural beauty are about 3,500 Mozambicans who call the archipelago home. Maputo, the capital, lies towards the south of the Mozambique. Many of the buildings were destroyed during the nearly thirty year of war that raged since 1962 until a peace treaty was signed in 1992. The once picturesque capital, Lourenco Marques renown for its nightlife and giant peri peri prawns, is now home to shelled apartment buildings, bullet scared houses and absolute darkness once the sun sets. However Maputo is full of life: Mozambicans love to party and Maputo is developing a reputation for its nightlife once more. Off the north coast lies World Heritage Site, the fortified city of Mozambique located on Mozambique island. It was a Portuguese trading-post on the route to India and has maintained remarkable architectural unity due to the consistent use, since the 16th century, of the same building techniques, building materials (stone or macuti) and decorative principles.
