The Island County Historical Society in Coupeville, Washington, is a privately funded, non profit organisation that was established in 1949, and is dedicated to the collection, preservation and interpretation of the cultural heritage and history of Island County. This Historical Society regularly hosts special events, historical programming, school tours, and many other interpretive activities. The Island County Historical Society opened its first museum in 1963, is operated and maintained by dedicated volunteers, and offers a unique learning experience for both adults and students.The oldest artifact at the museum is a 120 000 year old Ice Age tree trunk, and other artifacts include Mammoth remains and rare medical instruments.
