The Greene Turtle

The Greene Turtle in Ocean City, Worcester County, United States | Restaurant

The "World Famous" Greene Turtle was established in 1976 in Ocean City, Maryland on 116th Street. The Turtle started as a very small pub seating 50 people where patrons gathered to play backgammon and listen to Jerry Jeff Walker. In 1980, new owners made a few changes but the Turtle remained one of OC's favorite taverns

Then, in 1997, the Turtle expanded to have great live music, a gameroom and cigar bar upstairs, a satellite dish with 36 TV's, some with high definition, including two 60" wide screens and 6 new plasmas were added. Our kitchen has also expanded to serve not only our famous lite fare menu and raw bar, but now serves lunch and dinner (and breakfast 1-2 days per week for a limited time during the summer; see Specials for days)! During the summer of 2003 we expanded again to better serve our customers. For less wait and better efficiency when it comes to dining, we enlarged our non-smoking dining room and our kitchen, too. In keeping with Turtle tradition, 786 Turtle mugs, which are owned by our regular customers, adorn the ceiling.

The cobblestone floors are home to the shells of the World Famous Greene Turtle's peanuts. The Turtle has become Ocean City's most popular sports bar and neighborhood tavern.

The Greene Turtle opened four other locations in Maryland, one in Laurel (1990), one in Fell's Point (1986) and our two newest locations that opened in 1998 - Annapolis and West Ocean City.

The owners are college friends from the 70's who attended Salisbury State University. So stop into one of the five Greene Turtles while in Maryland - you are sure to be close to one of them. Don't forget to throw the peanut shells on the floor!
