Pattaya is firmly on the map as one of Thailands foremost tourist centres, a centre for sun, sea, adventure and nightlife just 165 kilometres southeast of Bangkok.

Pattaya was a sleepy fishing village until the 1960s when American soldiers were drawn to the beach and laid back lifestyle for rest and relaxation while on military service in Vietnam. Since then, tourists have been visiting the city and beach in droves, keen to taste the non-stop activity for themselves.

The beach is packed with sun worshippers and every imaginable distraction, water sports, hawkers selling everything from drinks to henna tattoos, massages and pirate merchandise. Pattaya Beach is known for non-stop entertainment. After the buzz of the day on the beach, people head to the southern side of the beach to sample their share of Pattaya's notorious nightlife.

Beach Road is lined with all manner of diversions, bars and restaurants, souvenir shops and noodle bars. Pattaya has a rowdy reputation and authorities have tried to improve the situation. The area has had a major clean-up in the past few years to ensure that the destination continues to lure international sun worshipers for years to come.

Pattaya Weather:
Nov-Feb warm and dry
Mar-May hot and humid
Jun-Oct hot and wet
