The Jangada has long been a symbol of Forteleza city. What is it you may ask?

The Jangada is a traditional raft that looks like a platform on the waves, topped with distinctive sails. It has been used for centuries by the fishermen along the coast of Brazil.

The fishermen bring in some of the finest, freshest seafood in Brazil. A treat is to buy it from vendors’ right on the beach ... Or find fresh shrimp at the market and pay someone to cook it for you right there.

The narrow fertile coastal plain around Forteleza has abundant rainfall and is an important sugar cane and cacao growing area. These tastes combine with the areas famed seafood  for fresh exotic dishes.
