Nordmarka

Nordmarka - a place for activities and recreation
The forest region north of Oslo city is called Nordmarka and has a size of 430 km2. There are several tour possibilities both in summer and winter. During the winter there are more than 450 km prepared, red-marked ski trails and some of them are illuminated in evenings.

In the summer you can find nice, blue-marked tracks for hiking, biking routes and idyllic lakes for swimming. It is also possible to stay for a night or have a break at one of the many charming huts. The associations: DNT Oslo og Omegn, Skiforeningen and Friluftsetaten have several staffed and unstaffed huts. The routes are mostly well marked, but it is recommended to have a map for longer distances. Highest peak in Oslo: Kirkeberget, 629 m.a.s. Highest peak in Nordmarka: Svarttjernshøgda, 719 m.a.s. (Oppland County)

It is the largest part of the Marka borough. The forests are popular sites for hiking and skiing. Most of the forests are protected, and it is not possible to obtain building permits for cottages in the area.

There are several lakes in Nordmarka, which are used as a supply for drinking water, largest of these is the Maridalen Lake.
