St. Lucia

The little village of St. Lucia lies on the picturesque St. Lucia estuary and is entirely surrounded by the iSimangaliso Wetland Park (formerly known as the Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park) in KwaZulu Natal. Because of its location, the village of St. Lucia has become so intertwined with the wetlands area that most people don't realize that it is a town in its own right, complete with police station, post office, banks, medical center, filling station and a variety of shops to meet the needs of the locals as well as the many visitors to the area. Restaurants, cafés and coffee shops make the most of the beautiful surroundings so that customers can enjoy good food along with scenic views.

With street names such as Hornbill Street, Pelican Street, Dolphin Avenue and Tuna Avenue, visitors are left in no doubt as to where the loyalties of this quaint little town lies. Conservation is a high priority in St. Lucia with tourism being the main source of income for many of the local people. While nothing is lacking in modern amenities in St. Lucia, within a couple of hundred meters out of the town visitors can be enjoying the stress-relieving tranquility of nature which makes the hectic modern world disappear for a time. In addition to exploring the iSimangaliso Wetland Park activities available include mountain biking, deep-sea fishing, bird-watching and hiking.
