Frederiksborg Castle is not only the landmark of Hillerod but an important frame for the life in town. This is where the inhabitants meet the tourists for exhibitions and concerts. The castle forms together with the lake, the little ferry and the Baroque Garden a beautiful oasis in the middle of the town.

Hillerod is surrounded by some of the most extensive woodlands in Denmark, with Store Dyrehave to the south and the forests of Gribskov to the north. Gribskov is the second largest forest in the country, and is home to one of the largest lakes in Denmark, Esrum So. Fredensborg Palace Garden are next to Grib skov and Esrum So. These forests are rich with wild game such as deer.
