Taree

Taree is the major service centre of the Manning Valley. Located on the Manning River, Taree and Cundletown feature beautiful riverside parks including Fotheringham, Queen Elizabeth and Kendall Reserve and are ideal for enjoying a picnic, watching the seagulls and pelicans or simply sitting and enjoying the tranquil views across the river. Those wanting to enjoy boating or fishing are accommodated with Taree and Cundletown’s many boat ramps in which to enjoy the Manning River and its many tributaries. A large part of the Manning River is also a declared recreational fishing haven further stimulating fishing opportunities. Taree’s newest foreshore development, the Manning Quays is located at the end of Manning Street and completes the most recent upgrade to Queen Elizabeth Park. The area now incorporates a river pontoon and jetty facility linking waterway users with the central business area, provides a large recreational area with paving, landscaped sections and seating to accommodate visitors to the park, and a curved shelter structure which will form the focal point for civic ceremonies and musical events. Taree offers an excellent shopping centre with a good variety of shops to choose from as well as substantial parking facilities accommodating caravans and motorhomes. Taree and Cundletown’s recreation facilities are also extensive and are popular for major sporting events and fixtures including hockey, rowing, tennis, lawn bowling and indoor basketball. Other attractions in Taree include The Manning Entertainment Centre located on Manning River Drive adjacent to the Visitors Centre, a 500 seat entertainment venue featuring an array of touring performances, including stage plays, comedy gigs, top musical artists as well as high quality locally produced productions.

The Manning Regional Art Gallery located in Macquarie Street is a cottage style art gallery hosting a constantly changing array of visiting and regional exhibitions. The Manning Aquatic and Leisure Centre is a major aquatic centre housing a heated indoor 25 metre pool and an outdoor 50 metre pool. In addition to the excellent sporting and cultural facilities, Taree also offers a range of holiday activities and for those that like their activities charged with a little adrenalin then why not try skydiving with Tandem Skydive Taree operating its drop zone at the Taree Airport. You can jump from 8000 to 12,000 feet and freefall for up to 50 seconds with highly experienced instructors to guide you through the most thrilling sport known to man. You can take up the option of video and/or pictures.
