Rags to Rugs Craft Shoppe is a rug hooking supply store located in Pictou, Nova Scotia. Our product offerings include hooks, frames, rag cutters, new and recycled wool, dyes, scissors, rug hooking books and a variety of other rug hooking supplies. We supply fine quality products so that your creative projects can withstand the test of time.
Rags to Rugs Craft Shoppe features the Bluenose Rug Hooking Patterns. These patterns were printed and distributed throughout the 1900s by Garrett's in New Glasgow and we are endeavoring to bring them back into circulation and to preserve this important part of rug hooking heritage.
In 1998, Linda MacDonald, owner of Rags to Rugs, acquired the Bluenose Rug Hooking Patterns. This collection of designs was created by the Garretts of New Glasgow throughout the 1900s for distribution across North America and Britain. At the time they were acquired by Linda, these patterns had been sitting in the basement of Garrett's by the Bridge in New Glasgow for quite some time. They were in the form of perforated paper stencils stained with black ink. As you can imagine, the task of cleaning the stencils of dirt and dust, then transferring them to a usable form is very time consuming. At Rags to Rugs Craft Shoppe in Pictou, Nova Scotia, we are now offering our catalogue on line. Hopefully, this will be helpful to you. It will certainly make my life easier as getting it printed became difficult once my photo editor and website designer (my daughter, Michelle) moved away. This way, I can email the photos to her and she will clean them up and post them to the website. Thank goodness for technologically savvy children.
New additions to the catalogue this year include more designs by Sylvia Macdonald and Marjorie Judson as well as a line of ?Lunenburg Houses? patterns designed by my good friend Helen Serrao of Portugese Cove. We are also working on a line of historic properties here in Pictou County as well as local lighthouse patterns. I have even started designing more of my own.
