Mom's Café

Mom's Café in Sooke, Vancouver Island, Canada | Restaurant

When Howard Lewis built this Restaurant in 1963, he couldn't have imagined what a reputation it would develop as the years moved on. Howard's son Hilly Lewis remarks, "when it was built he called it Jokers Grill, and my mom did the cooking." So popular has the spot become as "Mom's Café", that it was the subject of a painting by well-known Victoria artist Robert Amos. Mom's décor has been described as rummage sale knick-knacks, a colorful diner straddling the line between 'hokiness' and hominess, and a weird fusion of a `50's Diner and grandma's living room.
