Kalfayan Galleries in Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki, Greece | Art Gallery

Third generation art dealers from Thessaloniki, Roupen and Arsen Kalfayan have established a solid reputation that goes beyond their family’s history in art collecting and trade. In spite of their knowledge of the art of other periods and cultures, their abiding interest in contemporary art led them to launch their first gallery in Thessaloniki in 1995. Since then the Kalfayan Galleries have shown the work of innovative Greek artists such as Nikos Navrides, Tassos Pavlopoulos, Konstantin Kakanias, Miltos Manetas, Marios Spiliopoulos, Edouard Sacaillan, Christos Bokoros, Stratos Kalafatis and Lampros Psyrrakis, among many others. Their success encouraged them to open a second space in 2000 in Athens, a more dynamic center for art. In April 2007 Kalfayan Galleries inaugurated their new gallery space in Athens with an exhibition of paintings by Sacaillan ‘Utopias of Paradise’.The Kalfayan Galleries have collaborated with the Documentary Film Festival of Thessaloniki when the controversial photographs of Andres Serrano were shown in the Thessaloniki gallery. The Kalfayans have provided advice to museums and private curators and are among the few dealers in Greece who have a permit given by the Ministry of Culture to buy and sell antiquities.
