The Gevangentoren

The Gevangentoren in Vlissingen, Walcheren, Netherlands | Cafe

The Gevangentoren Restaurant and Cafe is located on the famous boulevard of Vlissingen.  As situated on the slopes and beach, overlooking the busiest ship's route from Europe to the Netherlands, where day and night a large variety of ships passed.

Halfway along Boulevard De Ruyter in Vlissingen, you find The Gevangentoren, popularly known as the 'Bomvrije'. It is a remnant of a city gate built at the end of the 15th century . The tower was completely restored around 1960, where the roof with the tent-like balustrade was reproduced using old drawings.

Today The Gevangentoren houses a Restaurant  and Cafe with a terrace from which a few cannons still threaten sea. From the unique hanging terrace you can enjoy sun, sea and the sea a short distance. Underneath runs the Vlissingers' Glooiing, an asphalt seawall which is also extremely pleasant place for a walk. But you take care during high tide and beware of your boots, because the sea still comes crashing against the wall.

In the summer you can laze away the day on our unique hanging sunny terrace or enjoy the famous Dutch skies, while in autumn can enjoy the breathtaking sunset during your dinner. The restaurant has room for 50 persons while the hanging terrace has seating for a further 80 people.
