Vincents Restaurant located on Elizabetes Street, just outside Riga's Old Town, is the creation of English chef Martin Ritins. After twenrty five years of cooking all around the world - in Saudi Arabia, Jamaica, Canada and Great Britain - Ritins moved to Latvia, his parents' original home. He wanted to open a western-style restaurant in Riga that was quite a difficult task in the country recovering from the "bloom of socialism". But due to his inexhaustible enthusiasm and energy, the restaurant named after Vincent Van Gogh was opened in 1994.
Now it is a popular restaurant famous not only for its exquisite cuisine but for the number of celebrities that have dined here as well. People who visited the restaurant include Elton John, Mstislav Rostropovich, Pierre Carden, Jose Carreras, Pierre Richard, Montserrat Caballe, B.B. King, King of Norway Harald V, Paco Rabane and others.
The menu offers a wide range of dishes of French, Italian, Mexican and Latvian cuisine that can satisfy any refined taste.
About Riga :
Riga was a major center of the Hanseatic League and prospered from its trade with central and Eastern Europe in the 13th-15th centuries. The urban fabric of its medieval center reflects this prosperity, although most of its earlier buildings have been destroyed by fire and war.
