The Ice Cream Lady manufactures homemade ice creams, gelatos and sorbets in the village of Stonington on Deer Isle, Maine in the United States. Our products at The Ice Cream Lady, sold in pints and gallon containers, are wholesaled to markets, specialty shops and restaurants throughout the greater Blue Hill Peninsula. The Ice Cream Lady is registered, licensed and insured as a Maine dairy producer.
The original Ice Cream "Lady", a wonderfully creative "foodie" named Tenney Gavaza, started her business in 1992 in Brooklin, Maine. Tenney created unique homemade ice creams for local restaurants and markets from Castine to Hancock.
In 2006 the business was purchased by Christina Shipps and Glenn Gray, owners of Inn on the Harbor in Stonington, Maine. For many years they had served The Ice Cream Lady products at their restaurant, Café Atlantic, and at their Inn. Tenney's original recipes are faithfully followed, everything is still homemade in small batches and hand packaged. Most of the fruit flavors are made, in limited quantities, with fresh seasonal fruits. Glenn, who does all the manufacturing, has created many new flavors and has become, of course, The Ice Cream Man.
"For kids over 21" is Glenn's newest collection of flavors. Very generously "enhanced" with different spirits these new flavors include over 21 flavors.
