Downeast Sky, with its inviting rooms, expansive decks, and beautiful gardens, captures that spirit.
If you like "out-of-this-world" seafood, walks on the beach, and beautiful sunsets this is the place for you. At Downeast Sky in Deer Isle, Maine, you can get away from the commercialism and hectic pace of the cities and still have the comforts of home on vacation. The house is fully equipped with everything you'll need whether you want to rest, read, and refresh, or if you want to explore a beautiful part of America on hikes, kayaks, bikes, or by car. The beds and bathrooms match the comforts of home. And, you can cook your own fresh seafood in our well-equipped kitchen or dine at one of many excellent restaurants in the area.
The house, with expansive views to the west, sits atop a hill on a quiet street at the northern most point of the large island of Deer Isle (which is reached by a bridge and a causeway). It's an historic house, a century ago it was a popular guesthouse known as The Island View Inn. Recently, it was completely remodeled and updated. The water's edge is a 3 to 5 minute walk away and the public boat launch is at the bottom of our hill. The house provides access to all of the island beauty and the activities of the Deer Isle/Stonington communities as well as easy drives to the peninsula towns of Blue Hill, Castine and Brooklin. Acadia National Park is a 75 minute drive away. But we think you'll love this house so much you won't want to wander far.
The living room provides two comfortable seating areas: the main area and a cozy section by the Vermont Casting woodstove. The room features cable TV, a VCR (with an extensive tape collection), French doors to the deck, a desk with telephone.
The huge kitchen is a delight for all cooks. There is an island with five-burner gas stove, a convection oven, microwave, dishwasher, garbage disposal, Pfaltzcraft and Corelle dishes, good pots and pans, sharp knives, coffee makers, toasters, toaster oven, mixers, blender, lobster pot, clam steamer and more, everything you?ll need.
