The health resort San Zeno di Montagna at an altitude of 585m, is a popular starting point for hikers and climbers who want to explore Monte Baldo. The outskirts of the town maintain areas of wild, unspoilt nature, including cows grazing next to horses in pretty pastures. Every now and again, hikers may come across very old chestnut trees, many of which offer a peaceful shady area to take a break. San Zeno is also a must for lovers of the traditional rural cuisine. Slightly below the resort is the village of Albisano also called the "balcony of Lake Garda". The view from the churchyard over the Lake is outstanding.
Lake Garda is the entrance to the south, the first tasting of the Italian way of life behind the Alps. The Lake lies beautifully embedded between high mountains, olive groves and vineyards. The region around the Lake is Alpine and Mediterranean at the same time and stupefies by its variety of countryside, vegetation and culture.
