The river played an important role in the logging of the surrounding forests and there are the remains of several old wharves to be seen, the best-preserved of which is on the south bank beside the traffic bridge in Log Wharf Reserve.

Waterski enthusiasts can brush up their skills at Stoney Park Watersports and Recreation, where there is a waterski school. Two man-made lakes built at right angles to each other ensures that skiers can waterski in almost any conditions.

Telegraph Point Public School is a primary school from k to grade six with website www.telegrappt-p.schools.nsw.edu.au.

The village lies between two areas of state forest. South of the village is Cairncross State Forest, while to the north is Ballengarra State Forest. These managed forests provide plenty of recreation opportunities including mountain bike riding, bush walking, four-wheel-driving, camping, swimming and rock hopping in streams and creeks, picnicking or just relaxing with Mother Nature.

Further south, Timbertown near Wauchope gives visitors a unique insight into life in a timber town 100 years ago. With a steam train, timber cutting, bullock teams at work, historical displays and children's activities, it's a great day out for the whole family.
