The Lizard Marconi Wireless Station at The Lizard in Cornwall, UK is the oldest surviving Marconi Wireless Station in the World, and now also a museum and amateur radio station which are run by the National Trust. The Lizard Lifeboat in The Lizard, Helston, Cornwall is a RNLI charity that saves lives at sea, and have been at the Lizard since 1859. The Lizard Lifeboat Station is located in one of the most rugged and remote settings in all of Great Britain, and when the boat is launched the crew have to run down some 200 steps from the station car park to the boathouse in Kilcobben Cove. With a series of lifeboats having served the stations over the years, the Tamar class all-weather lifeboat Rose arrived in July 2011, with a range of 250 miles and a top speed of 25 knots, she can carry a crew of 7. The Lizard Lifeboat station welcomes visitors to come view the boathouse and organised trips can be arranged with prior notice, bearing in mind this is an operational station and emergencies may take them away at any time. The Lizard Lighthouse Heritage Center has distinctive twin towers which mark the most southerly point of mainland Britain, and this landfall and coast mark provides a guid for vessels in passage along the English channel as the waters are very hazardous. Lizard Lighthouse has six adjacent holiday cottages which offer breathtaking scenery and are ideally located for coastal walking with rare birds and flowers in abundance and sometimes sightings of dolphins can be spotted from the cliff tops. The Lizard Lighthouse Visitors Centre maintained and renovated by the Trinity House have refurbished the Engine Room at the lighthouse, retaining some of the old engines, and now also features new exhibition material, interactive displays and an audio visual room.
