The Toepfermarkt Gmunden is an annual celebration of ceramic exhibits for those who enjoy the art of ceramics. Come and revel in displays of one of the oldest crafts in the world. The Ceramic town of Gmunden hosts this special event every year on the last weekend of August and presents a challenging mix and a cross section of contemporary ceramic art in all forms. Host countries are invited to exhibit their wares and a cultural exchange of pottery ideas is also foremost.
Gmundner Keramik in the ceramic town of Gmunden offers stunning pieces of ceramic art lovingly crafted by hand as it was 300 years ago. Each piece is unique and fashioned from the raw material which is prepared and worked into shape, and after adjustments are made by hand is fired for the first time then glazed. After that the plates, coffee pots and milk jugs then go to the heart of the factory and the hand painting department, and finally the product is fired for the second time, resulting in the necessary hardness, and the colours come into their own. Gmundner Keramik is the largest ceramic manufacturer in mid Europe and the production capacity is about 10,000 pieces a day, guided tours are available.

Observe the employees at work as they churn out over 500 different shapes which must be handled up to 60 times before it is offered for sale. All ceramics are available for sale in the factory shop afterwards.
