The Workhouse

The Workhouse in Dunfanaghy, County Donegal, Ireland | Cafe | Craft Shop | Heritage Museum

The Workhouse in Dunfanaghy, Ireland, was established in 1995 as a Heritage Museum that accurately depicts the difficulties impoverished people experienced during the years from 1845 up until 1922. Admission to the heritage center and museum is free, however, there is a nominal charge for certain exhibitions. The Wee Hannah Exhibition, via audiotape, tells the heartsore story of little Hannah's farm upbringing in 1830, her grave illness, and especially the difficult time spent in harsh conditions. Facilities at The Workhouse include a library, play area, a Craft Shop stocked with gifts, jewelry, soap, cards, books and more, and at the Workshop Cafe visitors can enjoy freshly prepared sandwiches, toasties and homemade soup.
