Albany's Whale World is on the site of the disused Cheynes Beach Whaling Station, located on the picturesque southern coast of King George Sound in Albany, Western Australia. The station ceased whaling operations and was decommissioned in 1978.
Now a Museum, it is acknowledged as one of the State's most significant visitor attractions. On a local level, the site was a dedicated visitor landmark even during the era of commercial whaling operations at the site.

On a local level, the site was a dedicated visitor landmark even during the era of commercial whaling operations at the site. The initiative to preserve and develop the Whale World site has been an ongoing process, first embarked upon by John Bell with the establishment of a small Museum on the site in 1974. In 1980 after The Jaycees Community Foundation Inc. leased the site they announced an extensive self-funded program of restoration and development was announced.
Since that time, the site has been the subject of a number of studies and submissions, which have contributed to the development of the Whale World complex.
