Tynemouth Priory Theatre

Tynemouth Priory Theatre in Tynemouth, Tyne and Wear, United Kingdom | Theatre | Entertainment | Social Club

The Tynemouth Priory Theatre Club, Tynemouth, United Kingdom, as it was then known, was formed by Ria Thompson in 1946. The first play 'Blithe Spirit' was performed in Holy Saviours Parish Hall, which meant setting up all the seats and lighting for each production.

In 1970 the club moved 500 yards down the road to its new home. The main part of the original building was a Wesleyan Chapel and so the stage, Green Room, workshops and wardrobe have all been added. In recent years the foyer and waiting areas of The Tynemouth Priory Theatre have been revamped and the auditorium has been renovated throughout with additional seating and new carpeting and decor. The colour scheme of red and gold gives the Theatre a traditional warm feeling and along with the 200 seats creates an intimate venue with excellent sight lines for everyone in the audience.

Plans are in progress for the Tynemouth Priory Theatre for more enhancements starting with the building of disabled toilet facilities to commence in January/February 2008.
