The Old School House was built between 1705 and 1717 and was occupied by successive Headmasters until the Hawkshead Grammar School closed in 1910. The Old School House sits in its own grounds in Hawkshead, England, next to the old school, William Wordsworth being the most famous former pupil. There are extensive views from the house across the lovely Esthwaite Vale and to the nearby village church.
The Old School House is in a quiet corner of the village even though it is only 200 metres from the centre. It is warm and comfortable, has elegant interiors decorated to a high standard and many items of period furniture.
Hawkshead, England is a picturesque village, with small squares and narrow streets, historically a centre for the woodland industries, supplying charcoal, and coppiced woodland products such as baskets and bobbins.
Forestry, farming and tourism are now its main activities. It has excellent facilities for eating out, shopping and several pubs. It is a convenient centre for exploring the Lake District.
Breakfast is served in our spacious and elegant dining room. A full English breakfast is served, using organic produce from local sources where possible and there are light and vegetarian alternatives available.
There are four double bedded rooms and one twin. All have en-suite or private bath/shower rooms and are fully equipped for your comfort. There is ample private parking.
Children are welcome, also dogs. The house is strictly no smoking.
