The Masonic Arms

The Masonic Arms in Gatehouse of Fleet, Dumfries and Galloway, United Kingdom | Restaurant

South West Scotland's premier destination for good food and real ale
Chris and Sue Walker bought The Masonic Arms in May 2003 and set out to bring a modern fresh approach in both food and character to Gatehouse of Fleet. They wanted simply to be â??South West Scotlandâ??s premier destination for good food and real ale.â? Extensive refurbishment was carried out during November 2003 and the pair are very proud of the mix and balance they have created in having 3 distinct dining areas â?? The Cosy Olde Worlde beamed bar, The Contemporary Restaurant with high back leather chairs and wooden floor and The Mediterranean Conservatory.
The Masonic quickly became the place to eat and drink. Chris in the Kitchen and Sue out front. Real ales including Tim Taylors Landlord and Black Sheep Bitter are regular visitors alongside The Masonicâ??s own brew â??Masonic Boomâ? brewed exclusively for the pub by Sulwath Brewers in Castle Douglas.
Chris teamed up in the Kitchen with old friend and work colleague Paul Somerville who had worked with Chris at Creebridge and then at The Black Sheep in Newton Stewart.
Now within less than 3 years the Masonic has been voted "Scotland's Best Loved Pub" by the Daily Telegraph, nominated for Scottish Gastro Pub 2006 by the Scottish Chefs Association, listed as Outstanding in Peter Irvine's Scotland the best 2006 and the only Gastro pub in the Dumfries and Galloway to feature in Egon Ronays 2006 guide.
