Lord Nelson Beach Hotel

Lord Nelson Beach Hotel in Antigua, Antigua, Anguilla | Hotel

The Lord Nelson Beach Hotel was the first Hotel to be located on a beach in Antigua. It was established in 1951 by Nicholas Fuller and his wife Adele. Nicholas came to Antigua in the 1940's to serve as the US counsel and he loved the island so much that he decided to make it his permanent home. Having studied civil engineering, he constructed the Lord Nelson Hotel on his own. Nicholas and Adele had seven children and in the early 80's they turned over management of the Hotel to their daughter Didi. During that period a windsurfing shop was setup on the beach property and the Hotel quickly became a premiere windsurfing destination. In the late 80's the Fuller's youngest daughter, Mary, took over the management of the Hotel until it was destroyed by a hurricane in 1996. The Hotel was closed from then on and served as a home to a few family members. In 2001 David Fuller, grandson of Nicholas and Adele, began restoration of the property and has brought it to its current rejuvenated state. David's goal is to return the Hotel to the preferred Antigua hideaway that it had been in the past. The windsurfing operation has also been re-opened and has much more to offer than the previous small shop. Once again, the Lord Nelson Hotel has become the preferred choice for a relaxing Caribbean getaway.
