Le Commerce
The opening of the first café at number 42 Rue du François la Vieille Cherbourg goes all the way back to the last century (May 1, 1918). This establishment was a combination café, billiard hall and furnished rooms for rent, operated by Miss Virginie Adam. This first bar was replaced by a beauty salon in 1933, run by Mr. Duval, who sold it to Mr. Malard and once again it became a combination café, billiard hall, rooms to rent, managed by Mr. And Mrs. Lejuez.
1955: The first commercial license was issued for a â??Café du Commerceâ? owned by Mrs. Lepelletier, listing the activities of the premises as café, billiards, furnished rooms, oysters and sauerkraut.
1958: Mr. And Mrs. Lemaire took over the establishment and modified the registration to â??café, billiards, brasserie, and ice cream.â? Later, (in 1970) they were the first to use the name â??Brasserie du Commerce.â?
1972: Mr. and Mrs. Postaire replaced the Lemaires.
Since 1978, the Brasserie du Commerce has been owned and operated by Mr. And Mrs. Gilles Hervieu.
