Grandview in Lake Tekapo, Mackenzie, New Zealand | Bed and Breakfast

Welcome to Grandview Bed and Breakfast, Lake Tekapo, New Zealand. Rosemary and Leon built and opened Grandview Bed and Breakfast in Lake Tekapo in 2001. This was something never to be imagined 30 odd years ago when Rosemary and Leon, me and my four siblings were living, growing up and generally enjoying the good life on a sheep farm in the small farming community of Albury, about 40 miles from Lake Tekapo. In those days it was just sheep, sheep, sheep for Leon. Well that is when there wasn’t any rugby to play, watch or coach. And far from running a holiday accommodation in Tekapo, Rosemary was kept busy enough with 5 absolutely delightful little children. At one stage, she had four children under the age of five! (Today, as a mother myself of two, I am only now beginning to appreciate that at that time she must have been truly mad!) All things said it was quite an idyllic childhood and we never wanted for much!

But oh how things change! Today Rosemary and Leon enjoy life in Tekapo running Grandview holiday accommodation. (Leon, however, still listens in each morning to the long-range forecast - some farming habits die-hard!) When they get time, Leon is busy with Lions, is a bit of a gun Curler in the winter months and still enjoys watching any sport he can and Rosemary loves to garden, spin, knit or do needlework. They both enjoy involving themselves in all the community activities Tekapo has to offer.

And the ‘five absolutely delightful little children’ are all grown up with their own “delightful” children. There are twelve grandchildren (at this present time). All of whom are very fond of Nan and Pop! Two grandchildren have very proper English accents, having only recently returned from the UK, and currently one is gaining an Aussie accent at an alarming rate, with a younger sister, I guess, to follow suit given time! We all enjoy returning for our holidays in Tekapo, when we can get accommodation at Grandview that is! Nothing to do with the breakfast menu and the fabulously comfortable rooms!
