Furey's Sheela-na-Gig is one of Irelands best known Pubs for traditional Irish music. Situated in Bridge Street, Sligo, beside the beautiful Garavouge River, just a short walk from the scenic surroundings of Lough Gill in the heart of the Yeats Country, Furey's Sheela-na-Gig is a must for visitors to Sligo.
World renowned Irish music group Dervish continue to cultivate Furey's long standing association with traditional Irish music. In the early 1960's this same Pub then called Mitchell Bar was also a hotspot for traditional Irish music, many of the Sligo greats such as Alphie Joe Dineen, Seamus Tansey, John Reagan, Micheal Carrol, Kevin McTiernan, Paddy King were regular attendees of music sessions at the Pub. The Pub was then owned by Jim and Shiela Mitchell and today by coincidence their son Shane Mitchell and fellow Dervish members Cathy Jordan, Brian McDonagh along with Brian's wife Gay keeps that musical tradition alive with some of Irelands best sessions of music. Many of the countries top traditional musicians have visited the bar and took part in the great music. Also some of Irelands top professional musicians have given itimate performances at Furey's Sheela-na-Gig such as Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill, Paddy Keenan, Tommy Peoples, Sliabh Notes along with many folk legends such as John Renbourn and Thom Moore to name just a few.
