in Hendaye, Pyrenees-Atlantiques, France | Castle

The Castle of Antoine d' Abbadie is drawn up on the abrupt cliffs which face the rocks of the "two twins" in Hendaye, in the medium of a moor which shelters many varieties of animals. It was built between 1860 and 1870 by Viollet-the-Duke and his disciple Edmond Duthoit in the neo-gothic style. Its interior decoration, marked orientalism, was inspired by the many voyages of Antoine d' Abbadie. The vastest part of the Castle was reserved for the astronomical observatory.
