The Elm Tree Inn

The Elm Tree Inn in Weymouth, Dorset, United Kingdom | Inn

Welcome to The Elm Tree, a Country Inn in Weymouth, United Kingdom.

Hosts, smugglers and spies populate the history of The Elm Tree Inn. A terrible lynching, storms and shipwrecks are the tales it tells. In the 1750’s a scurrilous fisherman was hanged by an angry mob from the ancient ships mast which still forms the ceiling of the bar. You may even see a ghostly white shape and feel the nudge on the shoulder... Many have.

Smugglers secret tunnels link The Elm Tree Inn to the pretty church next door and tales of terrible shipwrecks and storms are told around the fire.

In the 1960’s treachery was afoot at Portland Naval Base - sensitive naval secrets sold to the Russians. It was at The Elm Tree Inn that Harry Houghton and Ethel Gee came to exchange secrets and meet their Soviet masters. Today, Andrew and Charlotte Dewell offer a really warm welcome with exceptional, locally produced food, New World Wines and Real Ales.

The Elm Tree Inn,boasts beautiful gardens, cosy bars and fine dining areas all in the relaxed atmosphere of a real Country Inn.
