D. E. McDermott a sculptor exhibiting at Courtyard Gallery in Half Moon Bay, California, was born in Brooklyn, New York. Largely self-taught, he had early contact with the great animal sculptor, Anna H. Huntington. For several years, he lived and maintained a studio in Spain where his life-size sculpture, Youth, was commissioned for the city of Valencia's Exposition.
His portrait sculptures and semi abstract figures are in private collections throughout the world. Mr. McDermott currently resides in Virginia.
Loet Vanderveen, another sculptor exhibiting at Courtyard Gallery, was born in Holland and now lives in Big Sur, California. The Big Sur coastline is incredibly conducive to Loet?s creativity. The remote area with an abundance of wildlife, coupled with his love for animals, prompted Loet to first create animal forms in ceramic clay.
Striving for a more sophisticated and graceful image, he ventured into designing animals in bronze.
