The Queensland Maritime Museum located in Brisbane, presents the stories and history of the maritime industry in Queensland, Australia.   Queensland Maritime Museum features the warship Diamantina, the steam tug Forceful, the South Brisbane Dry Dock, and a large collection of exhibits.   Visitors to Queensland Maritime Museum can climb aboard and explore a decommissioned Navy frigate or take one of the regular river-bay trips offered by the Museum's SS Forceful, 1925 steam tug. SS Forceful has temporarily been removed from operation whilst repairs are made to the main circulation pump and carry out other maintenance on the vessel.
Bring your camera with you and take as many photos as you wish as a lasting memory of your visit to Queensland Maritime Museum. Our friendly volunteer members will welcome you, provide you with guide brochures and endeavor to ensure your visit is an educational and entertaining experience.
The Queensland Maritime Museum was founded in 1971 and is run by a self-funded voluntary Association. It is situated on the banks of the Brisbane River at the southern end of South Bank Parklands. The Museum contains extensive collections of historical maritime artefacts, books, documents and photographs. The collection is displayed to the public in the galleries and grounds of the Museum under the broad headings of Navigation, Lighthouses, Ship Models, Marine Engines, Vessels, and the Dry Dock.
On behalf of members of the public the Queensland Maritime Museum carries out research on all aspects of Queensland’s and Australia’s maritime history as well as on maritime matters generally.
