The idea to open Museum of Metro History in Moscow, Central Federal District, Russia, first came with the commissioning of the first stage of Moscow metro though the Museum was created much later in 1967 at the initiative of Moscow metro and the with active support of Zinaida Troitskaya, the then deputy general Manager of Moscow metro.
The foundation of the 1st exposition at Museum of Metro History in Moscow, Central Federal District, were documents collected by metro staff (about metro people). At present the collection is one of the most important records of Moscow metro history being continuously assembled for years. Traditionally interesting are working models of different technical systems.
The annual number of visitors to Museum of Metro History in Moscow, Central Federal District, is about 9 thousand Moscovites and guests of the capital. Over half of them are schoolchildren and students. For them a visit to the Museum is an acquaintance with one of the major transport system of Russia and with Moscow metro staff. Some visitors became permanent visitors and then come to work to Moscow metro.
The exposition is arranged so as to show the Underground emergence history and development up to now. The unique exhibits demonstrate the labour feat of those who created this engineering and architectural wonder and who ensured its functioning. Other sections exhibited include "The Underground during The Great Patriotic War: transport and bombproof shelter", "The Underground as an Architectural Memorial", "The Commonwealth of Underground in Russia, CdS's countries and other states world-wide".
