Hello and welcome to Marine Inc., San Pedro, United States. Marine Inc.San Pedro is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, publicly funded organization that supports marine animal rehabilitation along the Southern California Coast primarily at the Marine Mammal Care Center at Fort MacArthur through sponsorships, grants, donations and special events. Marine Inc. also provides outreach programs and educational opportunities. Marine Inc. is run by a volunteer Board of Directors and currently has over 200 members worldwide.
The Marine Mammal Care Center is always accepting animal care volunteer applications. Volunteers are asked to complete one shift per week on a weekday or weekend. Morning and afternoon shifts are based on animal needs and are a minimum of four hours. Orientation and training classes for volunteers take place as needed. Upcoming orientation dates are posted on the Events and Happenings page.
Orientations are held in the Center for Marine Studies classrooms.
Encountering a Seal or Sea Lion
Seals and sea lions like to rest on the beach to get warm. Not all Animals on the beach have stranded and require medical attention.
Do not approach, touch or feed the animal. The Animals can bite and it is a federal offense to disturb them.
Do not attempt to push the animal back into the surf or pour water on it. Pouring water on it may only further serve to debilitate a sick or injured animal.
Do not attempt to feed the animal. Feeding the Animals something other than what it is accustomed to may lead to illness and possibly death.
