Lorain Lighthouse Foundation

Lorain Lighthouse Foundation in Lorain, Lorain County, United States | Attraction | Lighthouse

The Lorain Lighthouse Foundation in Lorain, Ohio restores and takes care of the Lighthouse, and with a history going back all the way to 1937 when the first light was a simple lantern hanging on a pole at the water's edge, this is a fascinating place to visit. Later the beam was powered by kerosene, and the light was rebuilt at least twice more over time and on until the beacon building was installed in 1898 with the first Lighthouse keeper, eventually the kerosene light was replaced by an oil vapor light, after much more history the Lighthouse is now maintained as a historic landmark. Visitors here can enjoy Lighthouse tours, and the museum and gift shop offers a wonderful insight and items for sale of the Jewel of the Port, as the Lighthouse is known.
