Labrador Heritage Museum

Labrador Heritage Museum in Labrador, Newfoundland, Canada | Museum

The Labrador Heritage Museum held its grand opening on June 20th, 1999. It was a great turn out as people from the Upper Lake Melville area showed their support. Despite the windy conditions, the day proved to be well received as everyone shared the memories and paid tribute to the trappers of long ago.
The Labrador Heritage Society, recognizing the significance of the 1923 Hudson Bay Company Building at North West River and the inherent value of their artifact collection, had been in the process of developing the site for its conservation and heritage tourism value. There had been two phases to this process - restoring the building and conserving and cataloging the artifacts. The selected participants were trained in cataloguing and conservation by the project consultants. The phases are now complete and the general public are invited to come see the finished product.
