The University of Queensland and the Queensland University of Technology are both just across the river and the Conservatorium of Music and College of Art campuses of Griffith University are even closer.  And most of the English-language schools are nearby.
There are dozens of good restaurants and coffee shops in and around Boundary Street at West End. They're all within walking distance of  Eskdale Bed and Breakfast and the variety reflects the countries of origin of the people of West End.
