The Effie

The Effie in Rock Island, Rock Island County, United States | Restaurant

Welcome to The Effie Restaurant, Rock Island, United States. Have you ever dined on a towboat before? Well, at Casino Rock Island you can. The Effie Afton Towboat Restaurant was built for the Army Corps of Engineers in the early 1940s. The boat, originally named the Mateur, was retired in 1978 and was used as a training facility for deckhands in the state of Mississippi. After the acquisition and renovation by Mr. D. James Jumer, the boat was renamed The Effie Afton. The original Effie Afton was a 19th century steamer, which became wedged crosswise in the drawspan of the first Mississippi railroad bridge near Rock Island in 1856. The steamer caught fire causing the destruction of the bridge and the boat on her maiden voyage.
Fifty feet wide by 150 feet long, The Effie Afton has seating for 136 people. Today, The Effie Afton gives her guests a "taste of the Mississippi" as they dine among the original steam engines, pipes, boilers, ladders and wheels kept in tact during the boat's renovations. Dining services are provided by friendly waitstaff who create a warm and festive experience for the guest.
The Effie Afton offers a delicious lunch or prime rib dinner all-you-can-eat buffet.
Must be 21 years of age to dine in The Effie.
