Dumfries and Galloway Aviation Museum

Dumfries and Galloway Aviation Museum in Dumfries and Galloway, Dumfries and Galloway, United Kingdom | Attraction | Collection | Aviation Museums

Dumfries and Galloway Aviation Museum in Dumfries, Scotland is a noteworthy aviation museum that is run by dedicated volunteers, and is home to an ever increasing Collection of aircraft, aero engines, and artefacts. Civil and the military are represented at the museum, with past and present personal histories relating to aviation, as well as a mock WWII living room and an impressive memorabilia Collection which suitably honours airborne forces, all of which makes for interesting and informative viewing. The former WWII control tower which is considered the centrepiece of the museum, has been restored and is now a listed building. In 1978 the museum received the F-100, the first fighter aircraft to reach supersonic flight on its maiden flight in 1953, and was used as a outstanding close air support aircraft during the Vietnam war. Today, this aircraft is dedicated to the US Air National Guard. This is just one of the many interesting aircraft on display at the aviation museum, a destination well worth visiting.
