Over the years the Museum has amassed an amazing collection of minerals, crystals and gemstones along with fossils and other related exhibits, and has become one of the most popular visitor attractions in Dumfries & Galloway receiving many thousands of visitors each year. The collection contains many fine and rare examples of gems, crystals, rocks and fossils, found both in Britain, and around the world, plus some very unusual items including a 4.5 billion year old, three kilogram meteorite and fossilised egg and dung of a dinosaur.
When you enter the unique Crystal Cave you will see crystals and minerals displayed in a realistic cave setting, where beautiful jewel-like examples are revealed around every corner. Ordinary looking rocks take on a colourful glow in the wonderful fluorescent display.
In addition to the specimens on display there is a fine gemstone polishing and jewellery-making workshop, where many of the exhibits have been cut and polished along with items for sale in the gift shop. This unique gift shop has a wonderful selection of gems, crystals, rocks, jewellery and gift items, where you are sure to find the ideal gift.
