The Coniston Mountain Rescue Team, United Kingdom is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Coniston Mountain Rescue Team consists solely of local volunteers, all of whom undergo extensive training. The Coniston Mountain Rescue Team is entirely funded by public donation. The Coniston team was founded in 1947 and was the first of its kind in Britain. Coniston is a small working Lakeland village and has a range of attractive mountains as a backdrop, these include the 'Old Man' and Wetherlam. There is also Dow Crag, one of the largest rock massifs in the Lake District and a honeycomb of old slate and copper mines which have provided the team with many interesting challenges.

Coniston Mountain Rescue is a service which is called upon by the police in situations where the injured persons cannot be reached by the ambulance service or where persons have been reported missing in the area.
