Welcome to Codys Books, Bookshop, Berkeley, United States. We?re moving! We are very excited to let you know that Cody?s Books will move to the corner of Shattuck Avenue and Allston Way (2201 Shattuck Avenue, in the former Eddie Bauer space) in late March. This isn?t a move that we fully anticipated, but our Fourth Street rent skyrocketed, making it impossible for us to stay after ten lovely years in West Berkeley. However, we found a perfect new home--one that brings us right next to the UC Berkeley campus, Berkeley?s transportation hub, and to a downtown that?s full of energy and promise. Codys Books will soon be across the street from Berkeley BART, a block from the future David Brower Center as well as Cal?s western edge, a block from the Berkeley Public Library, a stone?s throw from downtown office buildings, theaters, schools, buses, and City Hall. (And, yes, parking garages.)

We will begin our transition in less than a month. During much of the move, our Fourth Street store will remain open with a special focus on many terrific remainders and other bargain books. We plan to open for business on Shattuck Avenue on March 24, even as final touches are being put into place, and we?ll celebrate grandly on April Fool?s Day!

Codys Books, Bookshop on Shattuck will be more intimate than our Fourth Street store. The upside in losing a bit of space is that we can focus on our strengths ? and the kinds of books you love the most ? while carefully selecting and curating for some other sections. We intend to offer you an engaging choice of literature, criticism, history, politics, philosophy, and science and technology. We?ll continue to carry and feature well-chosen children?s books, young adult literature, travel books and essays, cookbooks, and reference titles. We will also feature a new ?Green World, Green Living? section. And fabulous cards, postcards, maps, gifts, newspapers and magazines will augment our books. Codys Books world-class author events will continue in the store and throughout the community.
