Welcome to the Chocolate Cafe, Put-in-Bay, Ohio, United States. A Frenchman reputedly opened the first Chocolate house in London in 1657. Since then, every major city has had its Chocolate house, closely tied to its history and culture. Our Chocolate Cafe is in this tradition.

We are long time summer residents of the area and have decided to make Port Clinton our permanent home. Being chocoholics, when the opportunity to bring a Chocolate Cafe to Ohio arose, we had to do it!

The South Bend Chocolate Company was established in 1991. The founder, Mark A. Tarner, is a second generation Chocolate maker bound by his family’s recipes and heritage while setting a whole new standard. Taste any of our fine confections, desserts or drinks and you’ll agree.

Chocolate is a key ingredient in many foods. In fact, it ranks as a favourite flavor of most Americans. And yet, few of us know the unique origins of this popular treat.

The story of Chocolate spans more than 2,000 years. The story began in the rainforests of Central and South America where cocoa first grew. To learn more about the growing, history and making of Chocolate visit our Chocolate Museum!
