The Captain's Galley

The Captain's Galley in Orkney, Orkney, United Kingdom | Restaurant

About The Captain's Galley
In 2001 we sympathetically renovated the old Scrabster Ice House and Salmon bothy which dates back to the early 1800s, opening in October 2002. We serve around 20 different species of seafood over the course of the weeks service and upwards of ten on any one night - always fresh and always local, the menu changes every day after my routine visit the pier, picking only the freshest and best quality either on the market or direct from the many boats which land their catches in Scrabster. All of this goes on a mere 100-foot steps away from our Restaurant.
Our Ethical policy which forms part of our overall environmental policy determines that whenever possible all our fresh produce is sourced within a 50 mile radius of our Restaurant. All our seafood must be in season and we only purchase non-pressure stock species, caught in sea areas where the stocks are sustainable.
Although sticking rigidly to our principals to serve simple uncomplicated local fresh food of the highest standard, we do try to be a little bit imaginative to accommodate many tastes using the superb quality and enormous variety to its full by including dishes from all around the world
The crew really looks forward to welcoming you to the The Captain's Galley.
